Puppy Questionnaire and Selection Process

At Thunder Ridge Border Collies, our goal is to match each puppy with the most suitable owner or family. If you're interested in one of our puppies, we ask you to complete our Puppy Questionnaire. This helps us learn more about you, your lifestyle, and your plans for your new companion. Once we've reviewed your answers and feel you could be a good fit, we will follow up with a phone or video call to get to know each other better.

We place our puppies only in approved homes and may ask for references to ensure they are going to loving, responsible families.

Please note, we do not sell puppies with breeding rights.

It's important to provide thorough answers, as they help us understand your needs and commitment to caring for your puppy. If your focus is on specific eye color or excessive white markings over the puppy's temperament and health, we might not be the right breeder for you.

LITTER CONFIRMATION AND MATCHING PROCESS

We confirm each litter via ultrasound about halfway through the dam’s pregnancy. After the puppies are born and have settled in, we work closely with each prospective owner to ensure the best possible match. Puppies are not matched with families until they are around 7 to 8 weeks old, allowing us time to assess their personalities and conduct temperament testing.

We will schedule a day for families to come meet the puppies once they are old enough. While we take your preferences into account, our priority is matching each puppy’s temperament and suitability with the right home, rather than focusing on color or appearance.

REGISTRATION

All puppies from Thunder Ridge Border Collies will be registered with the CBCA (Canadian Border Collie Association) under a non-breeding contract.

VETERINARY CARE

Puppies can join their new families after they are eight weeks old. They will have received age-appropriate deworming, their first vaccinations, and will be microchipped before leaving for their new homes. Each puppy will undergo a comprehensive health exam, and health certificates will be provided if they are flying. Health records will be included in the puppy pack and should be shared with your veterinarian to establish the best vaccination plan for your area. We require a vet visit within 72 hours of bringing your puppy home.

DEPOSITS

We take deposits only after the puppies are around 7-8 weeks old and have been matched with their prospective families. This ensures that the right puppy is matched to the right home before any financial commitment is made. Once a suitable match is confirmed, we accept a $500 CAD non-refundable deposit to secure your puppy.

HOW MUCH IS A PUPPY?

Each Thunder Ridge Border Collie is priced the same ($2600 CAD), regardless of sex, colour, or parentage. Once old enough, a deposit is due to hold a potential puppy, with the final payment due at 8 weeks of age. Deposits must be received within the specified timeframe to secure your spot.

Our main priority is to ensure our puppies find perfect homes and that our clients receive a new family member who will bring joy and love.

PUPPY TRANSPORTATION

We have a reliable flight nanny for those who need to transport puppies by plane or car. Due to new regulations for importing dogs into the USA from Canada, puppies must be at least 6 months old. We can discuss the possibility of beginning training and keeping the puppy until it is old enough to travel at an additional cost.

FINAL STEPS

After reviewing our website, please fill out the puppy questionnaire. While we are new breeders and this is our female’s first litter, we are committed to providing the best start for our puppies and matching them with loving homes.

Thank you for considering a Thunder Ridge Border Collie. We look forward to helping you find your perfect companion.
